Wednesday, November 28, 2012

Bulldog oral interp has taken two acts: “The Toilet Paper Ration” and “O Alphabet Where Would We B Without U?” all the way to the state competition scheduled Nov. 30-Dec. 1 in Yankton.

The Bulldog team will compete against 42 Class B schools for a “Team Excellence” award.

There are 105 entries from these schools in seven categories: non-original oratory, interpretation of serious plays, interpretation of serious prose, poetry reading, humorous reading, duet interpretation, and readers theatre.

Senior Libby Wolkow took second place in the individual competition at the regionals with her hilarious rendition of “The Toilet Paper Ration.”

Wolkow impressively channeled different voices, postures and expressions for more than five characters during a Nov. 26 performance for the De Smet Kiwanis chapter.

The Bulldog “Reader’s Theatre” team also placed first at districts and second at the regionals with a performance entitled “O Alphabet Where Would We B Without U?”

The Kiwanis presentation involved a variety of timed and coordinated

interactions between Wolkow, juniors Franchesca Poppinga, Jace Janssen and Da

yton Trujillo and sophomore Ali Munger.

The piece included clever wordplay, backwards ABC recitals and use of Suess-like metaphors and sentence construction.
