Chuck’s Grocery sold to Maynard’s

Thursday, April 25, 2013

Roger and Barb Jones don’t yet know what their future holds. But they know what it doesn’t hold and that’s the 70-hour weeks they’ve put in for years as owners of Chuck’s Grocery in Lake Preston.

The Joneses announced on Monday that they are selling their store to Maynard’s Food Centers. Their store becomes the 16th store in the Maynard’s organization. All those stores are in small towns in Minnesota, Iowa and South Dakota.

“Our family is the main reason we want out,” Barb said. “There’s just no time to do anything together.”

But despite the long hours, it’s not going to be easy for the Joneses to leave it all behind.

“We have thoroughly enjoyed serving our community the past 30-plus years,” Barb said. “Every one of our customers are our friends. We’ve even grown up with some of them. We will truly miss everyone. We truly have a wonderful community and we appreciate its support.”
