You don’t want to miss this year’s Laura Ingalls Wilder Pageant. It’s one of the best pageant performances we’ve ever seen.

Director Jay Vanduch has crafted a script and combined it with a group of actors and staging that does a tremendous job of telling the story of “The Little Town on the Prairie” in an engaging way. We saw an opening-night performance and were extremely pleased with what we saw. And we’ve heard that with a little tweaking, performances the following nights were even better.

We strongly encourage you to attend, even if you have seen “The Little Town on the Prairie” in the past. We think you will be pleasantly surprised.

Our congratulations to the cast and crew on a fine pageant.

And two thumbs up to the organizers of the Fourth of July celebration held at Washington Park. It couldn’t have been much better, in our opinion.

The kids really seemed to be enjoying the inflatable playthings and the laser tag. Some parents liked them as well, but complained that all that climbing and sliding was physically challenging.

Our out-of-town guests were impressed that the De Smet Area Chamber of Commerce was able to provide such a variety of high-quality playthings for the kids without charging for it. They loved it!

The rib cook-off is building into a real competition. Ten cookers came this year and did a wonderful job, as they have in the past.

Congratulations to the winners. Anchors Aweigh won first place again this year. That must be some recipe.
