Kathy Rowen, who has served as postmaster in De Smet for more than eight years, has been promoted to manager of post office operations (MPOO) for Area 4 in South Dakota.

Rowen will headquarter at Dakota Central, a regional mail-processing center in Huron, where she will manage operations of 94 post offices in the state that have zip codes beginning with 573 and 574.

She has been working temporary detail at Dakota Central since August and received her permanent appointment Dec. 14.

Rowen began her career with the postal service 31 years ago as a clerk in Redfield. She was post master in Hitchcock for 14 years and at Wolsey for six years before coming to De Smet in May of 2005.

Rowen said she has enjoyed working with all the employees in the De Smet Post Office.

“It has been a pleasure working in De Smet. I enjoy the people and the personality of the Little Town on the Prairie,” Rowen said. “De Smet is a progressive community with a friendly atmosphere.”
