Christesen named new postmaster

Craig Christesen began work Jan. 27 as the new postmaster in the De Smet post office.

 

He was most recently employed as postmaster in Madison.

 

Christesen grew up in Graceville, Minn., and attended college at South Dakota State University in Brookings.

 

Following college graduation, Christesen worked for a time at Auto Body Specialists in Brookings.

 

He began his career with the post office in 2000 as a rural mail carrier in the Brookings area.  In 2007, he was hired as a delivery supervisor in Watertown before becoming postmaster at Madison in 2010.

 

Christesen and his wife Megan live in Arlington. He has two sons, Parker, 17, and Dawson, 14, and three stepsons, Devin, 20, Riley, 13, and Aiden, 5.

 

Christesen said he likes to hunt, fish, and spend time with his family in his spare time.

 

“De Smet has a very good post office with very good people. My plan is to be one of these very good people who work there,” he said.

 

Other employees at the De Smet Post Office include clerks Mary Hauck and Robert Roby, and rural mail carriers Arlen Wallum, Doug Osthus and Ryan Schoenfelder.
