Dakotaland Federal Credit Union is moving forward on expansion plans for a new facility in De Smet. The new building will be located just north of the current facility and will provide expanded parking, a drive through and an ATM.
The northeast corner property at the intersection of Highways 14 and 25 was purchased by Dakotaland in 2013 in anticipation of a need for additional space. Groundbreaking on the site is scheduled for early spring.
Plans are being finalized for an estimated 2,500 square-foot facility that will house both Dakotaland Federal Credit Union and Dakotaland Community Insurance.
When Dakotaland opened its doors in De Smet in 2012, they anticipated the future need for a larger facility to accommodate a growing number of staff and services. “We are excited to finally announce our building plans with the community of De Smet,” stated Credit Union President, Dan Cumbee.
He went on to explain that credit unions are not-for-profit cooperatives and return all profits back to their members. Cumbee said, “The people in the De Smet area have shown real support for their community cooperative credit union and we have been very pleased with the growing interest from local residents in wanting to do business with a credit union.”
Dakotaland has been a locally owned and operated business in South Dakota since 1935 and has 28,000 members and $255 million in assets. It is headquartered in Huron and also has locations in Volga, Brookings, Madison, Redfield, Mitchell and Woonsocket.
