Memorial Day services in De Smet begin at 10 a.m. May 26 at the American Legion Hall.


District 22 House Representative Peggy Gibson of Huron will be the featured speaker.


Following the program at the Legion Hall, there will be a service at the De Smet cemetery, and another at Prairie Park Apartments. There will be a potluck meal at noon at the Legion Hall.


The program in Iroquois begins at 10 a.m. May 26, at the Iroquois School south gym.


 Staff Sergeant Christina Sihrer of Miller is the guest speaker. Also speaking will be the high school and eighth-grade good citizenship recipients Lacey Nelson, Coden Galvin, Kenzie Blue and Caleb Waldner. Music will be played by Diane Perry. Names of area deceased veterans will be read at the cemetery following the program at the gym. Lunch will be served immediately after.  Everyone is invited to attend all the programs and lunch.


Services in Lake Preston begin at 10:30 a.m. May 26 at the American Legion Hall.


Featured speaker will be Rod Martens of Piedmont, a veteran of the Navy Seabees and former commander of the South Dakota American Legion.


Following services, there will be a community potluck dinner.


The Erwin American Legion and Auxiliary will hold services at 10:30 a.m. May 26 at the Legion Hall. The Rev. Marjorie Brewton of Bryant will be the featured speaker.


A special recognition of World War II veterans will be featured.


Following the service there will be a dedication of the veterans statue in the Erwin cemetery and a potluck dinner at the Legion Hall.


The Orthodox Presbyterian Church and St, John’s Lutheran Church in Bancroft will observe Memorial Day on Sunday. A combined worship service will begin at 11:30 a.m. at St. Johns.


A potluck dinner will follow at 1 p.m. in the church basement.
