Two new businesses, a beauty salon and an insurance office officially opened for business this week on De Smet’s main street.  The sign on the building still reads “Berg Medical Clinic,” but that will soon change.

Stylists Arielle Miller and Allison Uttecht own and operate “The Parlour” in the former Berg Medical Clinic building at 221 Calumet Avenue.

Full hair styling, waxing, facials and nail services are available at The Parlour. Miller and Uttecht also plan to sell boutique clothing.

The stylists met while studying cosmetology at Stewart’s School in Sioux Falls. Miller, who was raised in Bryant, was most recently employed at the Leigh Marie Salon on Third Street in De Smet. Uttecht, who grew up in Woonsocket, worked at Trendz Day Spa in Huron.

“I’m really excited to be on main street,” Miller said. “We’re visible here.”

Ashley Warner, an Aflac Insurance agent, has also moved her office from its Third Street location into the Calumet Avenue building.

Warner has been an Aflac agent for five years. Because her job requires travel, she doesn’t have set office hours. But she takes appointments.

“I don’t get to spend a lot of time in the office as I spend most of my time on the road,” Warner said. “But it is so nice to have a place to meet with people when I need to.”
