When Ethel Stutzman read “These Happy Golden Years” more than 40 years ago, she became a fan of Laura Ingalls Wilder.

She laughs when telling how the local librarian told her that was the last book in the series and she needed to start at the beginning.

“From then on, I was hooked,” Stutzman, 89, said. “As my (three) children and I shelled peas and snapped beans, one of us read from Laura’s books. It made our work fun.”
