Ever since we were kids, we’ve been told that we need to “eat our vegetables.” While we may not have understood why or been that crazy about them when we were young, most of us have grown to love them, both for their taste and for their nutritional value.

According to Nutrition.gov, there are many good reasons to attend your local farmer’s market. Doing so supports local farmers and helps strengthen the community, kids can get involved, vegetables are freshly picked and you might get some good preparation ideas from those who actually grew them.

The De Smet Farmers Market is located at the junction of Highways 14 and 25, making is easily accessible to everyone. You can go there every Thursday night from the beginning of July through the end of September. Hours are from 4:00 to 6:00 PM. In addition to local produce, you’re likely to find such things as honey, locally handmade crafts, beef jerky, pickled ‘everything you can imagine’ and a variety of other wares. It’s a great way to spend a summer evening and support the local economy at the same time!
