You don’t have to be a medical doctor to know that there are countless physical benefits involved with getting outdoor activity. What is less known is that that outdoor activity can have positive effects on mental health as well. According to an article in the Harvard Health Letter, the physical and mental benefits of outdoor activity include disease prevention, improved mood, improved concentration and faster healing.

There’s no shortage of places in De Smet to get some outdoor activity. There are three city parks, each with slightly different offerings. Here’s a look at what they have to offer:

  1. Washington Park

This park is the largest of the three. It offers picnic shelters, sand volleyball and horseshoe pits. There’s also RV and tent camping available in this park with electricity, water and a bathhouse with warm water showers!

  1. Rose Vincent Memorial Park

This park has a slightly different focus. Here you’ll find a basketball court, playground equipment and peaceful areas for picnicking. For those who’ve caught the “disc golf bug”, there’s also a disc golf course.

  1. 4-H Park & County Fairgrounds

Located near the Kingsbury County Fairgrounds and starting point of the Laura Ingalls Wilder tour, this smaller city park has playground equipment and a picnic shelter. There’s also a building on the grounds for social get-togethers.

There are a lot of options for outdoor activities in De Smet. All you have to do is choose the one that suits your needs! For camping rates and additional information on De Smet city parks, call 605-854-3731 or click on this link.
