The 4th of July Old Fashioned Celebration!
Monday, February 20, 2017
Summertime doesn’t last very long in the Upper Midwest. Folks who live in locations like De Smet know that “the other season” is never too far off, and every day needs to be taken advantage of. That means summer is a time to celebrate, and there’s no event that says summer like a good old-fashioned 4th of July celebration!
For those who love to run, the day starts with the Spirit Lake Road Race. You can run or walk, and there’s a distance to suit most people. Then, by mid afternoon, the festival really starts to get going. Washington Park becomes the scene for games and entertainment. Away from the park, there are softball games being played all throughout the day.
By late afternoon, though, people are gathering back in the park for an amazing meal which includes brats and burgers. There is always live music in the afternoon in the park in the afternoon to make it festive and fun.
The day ends with a spectacular fireworks display provided by the De Smet Fire Department. The best part? Except for the meal, the entire day is free!! What a wonderful way to celebrate the peak of summer in South Dakota! For information, give Chad Kruse a call at 605-854-3653.
